How to Choose Facial Wash for Acne Prone Skin
By Xing Tingkai

When it comes to choosing the right Facial Wash, what are the factors that we consider?

But first, you need to understand your skin type (whether it is sensitive, oily or dry skin) and the severity of your acne. (Mild or persistent acne)

It must be a gentle cleanser that cleanses the skin thoroughly to unclog pores and removes bacteria. Almost all facial cleansers can do that but not all will leave your face moist and not feeling dry after cleansing. Therefore it very important to spend that little extra effort to spot a good facial cleanser! Please note that using an inexpensive facial cleanser can sometimes be as effective as or more effective than using an expensive one. It doesn't matter whether it's branded, but how well it works! If it works well for you, then go ahead and use it.

I can always never stress it enough NOT to use scrubs!! (Facial wash containing micro-beads) Even though it claims to exfoliate your skin and cleanse deeply to prevent breakouts, it does the opposite!! Using scrubs can irritate your skin and cause skin inflammation, worsening the redness. Only use it when you have no more acne so it can lighten your scars and improve your skin condition.

Once you understand your skin type, you will know what kind to look for. There are many types of facial cleansers but I will be sharing 3. The first is foaming cleansers, it works best for people with oily skin because it cleanses thoroughly. However, it may cause the skin to be too dry for some people, so use a non-foaming one instead. Also, a non-foaming cleanser is ideal for sensitive skin since it is soft on the skin, but it doesn't cleanse as deeply as foaming cleansers though.

Next, would be medicated cleansers, this kind of facial wash contains active ingredients to cleanse skin deeply and remove bacteria effectively. However, it may be too harsh on the skin and cause some irritations or drying effect on some people. Therefore even though these products are popular but it would be better to use a gentle cleanser and then apply an acne treatment to achieve the best results.

Last, soap-free cleansers are cleansers without sodium lauryl sulfate or sodium laureth sulfate. It is suitable for people with sensitive skin or prone to allergies. Only wash your face twice a day with the right facial wash! No more, no less. Because washing your face more than twice a day can cause the skin to secrete excess oil and washing less than twice a day can cause bacteria to grow. In both situations, it will cause breakouts.

Spend that extra effort to find a facial wash that suits you, not too gentle nor too harsh.
